The Village of Brewster is within the town of Southeast. In 1848, James and Walter Brewster acquired what com�prises the village. In 1849 the railroad was finished, a depot built, and main street was opened. The location of the railroad junction in Brewster gave the village the distinction of becoming known as the "Hub of the Harlem Valley."

The village of Brewster portrays a turn-of-the-century railroad town with its charming architecture displayed throughout its buildings and houses, displayed against a backdrop of gently rolling hills. Although primarily residential the village's main street offers unique shops, restaurants, a museum and a library. All within walking distance to the Brewster train station. Transportation is provided by Metro North, which offers a 75 minute ride into Grand Central Station.

The historic Borden Condensed Milk Company in the village of Brewster was established in 1864. The factory was the largest and most efficient of its kind, with 30,000 quarts of milk condensed per day and shipped worldwide. It was located on the shores of the east banks of the Croton River at routes 6 and 22. Today the stream located behind the old Condensed Milk Factory is one of the many fishing hot spots located in Putnam County.  
 
Educational Facilities
The Brewster Central School District consists of two elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and one high school. Total enrollment is 3657, total number of teachers is 329, with a student teacher ratio of 1-11. The per-pupil expenditure is $17,083.00. Several private schools are within a short distance including: St. Lawrence O�Toole Catholic Elementary, John F. Kennedy Catholic High School and Melrose School.
 
Recreational Facilities
Recreation abounds at several surrounding parks offering activities from soccer and baseball under the lights, to outdoor summer concerts and supervised children's summer day camp.
